I did, in fact, enjoy McCabe and Mrs. Miller and definitely see its influence over Deadwood.
Excellent news! I fully agree with Robin and Frank about McCabe's hoopleness. I don't think Deadwood has an analogous character who similarly less smart than he thinks he is, except maybe E.B. And McCabe, for his faults, is no E.B.
