The amount of CGI in
Ultraviolet
got to me. It looked like they'd airbrushed Milla in every shot. The plot also looked completely generic and uncharismatic.
In Underworld, they explicitly mentioned the bearing of
the sunlight (or whatever) bullets, yet no one used them against Markus.
I
loved
the
jaw ripping
scenes. I think the second one made me clap.
the ones who did the dirty work so the rest could sit around wearing corsets and engaging in intrigues.
Well,
someone's
got to enable the rest of us.
Watching
Sky High.
Despite being Disney-formulaic, it was pretty cute, and had some great lines, well-delivered (a couple of the Kids in the Hall were in it, as well as Bruce Campbell). Random thoughts:
- Bruce Campbell needs his own True Facts, a la Chuck Norris.
- It looked like it cost about $15 to make. What's up with that? Was it a Disney intern project?
- One of the kids is the child of a super-villain and a super-heroine. His name is Warren Peace. LOVED that. Also, his story could be a whole movie on its own.
- The climactic scene at the end has now become my mental image of depression, a thing completely unintended by the filmmakers.
My god, her butt! I also like that Scott Speedman continually and pointedly ended up shirtless, for no clear reason.
Yeah, not so much mattered, except that Speedman also seemed to have lost his belt. I couldn't tell you when, because as soon as his shirt came off I couldn't pay attention to other stuff. But it was riding way low by the end.
Yes. Yes. And yes.
I think Kate's ass put me into labor, btw. I'm glad I went to see it.
The Ultraviolet trailer was just some cruel trick to make me think they'd turned the series into a movie. Bastards.
Well, someone's got to enable the rest of us.
There are two kinds of Buffistas: fightin' Buffistas and intrigue-and-corset Buffistas.
Hey, Selene wore a corset while fightin'.
I just got back from seeing "Mrs. Henderson Presents."
Dear God, I
adored
that movie. I can easily see it becoming a favorite for a number of Buffistas. I'll write up my reactions in more detail and post them over in my LJ a bit later.
Highly,
highly
recommended.
I saw Underworld: Evolution today. I do think it is better than the first one -- well faster paced. Possibly because there is less need for exposition.
Trailers: I saw the movie at an AMC theatre so we got their "Movie First" thing in addition to the regular trailers. There was a piece on "The Sentinal" starring Kiefer Sutherland, Michael Douglas and Eva Longoria as Security Agents. Disregarding the whole issue of how Michael Douglas is far too old to be a field agent, the minute you put KS in an earpiece, give him a gun and dialogue about danger to the POTUS and I go to a "24" place. My friend also went to a "24" place -- and she doesn't even WATCH "24".
Then, the Ultraviolet trailer - the outfits, the fighting? All took me to an "Alias" place.
The "Slither" trailer made me laugh and "Brick" looked intriguing.
I saw Good Night and Good Luck and Something New this afternoon. The former was exceedingly well done (I think it may be the best cinematography I've seen this year, and Straitharn was amazing as Murrow). The latter was surprisingly sweet, and turned out to be the more enjoyable movie of the two IMHO. Also, Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker together? Blazing hot.

Oh, absolutely on both counts. I love that movie with an unholy passion. One of these days, I'm going to treat myself to watching it as a double-feature with "The Manchurian Candidate." I think they'd play well together.
