Mikey, I whited out your plot details. But I do remember that they waited to turn Selene until she was a young woman--they showed her when her family was killed (Victor hugs her afterwards).

Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Oh! I just remembered--the Ultraviolet trailer looked beyond awful. Laughable, even.
Hah. Saw Underworld today (didn't like it) with Ultraviolet as one of the preview trailers, and came away thinking that Ultraviolet looks like it will be just as silly as Underworld, but at least the audience will be able to see what's going on.
Thanks ita. I sure wasn't thinking story when I saw Underworld, nor when posting about it.
I saw Underworld tonight and had the same timeline problems as everyone else. At one point I thought someone said something to Selene that made it sound like she'd been around in the 6th century, but the line might have been "for six centuries" instead, which would make a little more sense. Anyway, very confusing. Also, in the final showdown, I thought it was funny that both William and Viktor seemed almost completely unscathed by the bullets, and yet a good 3/4 of the fight consisted of Selene shooting at them. I kept thinking, "Okay, honey, clearly that's not working! Time to try a different tactic!"
Oh, and ita is totally right about the "Oh, you mean *this* key" scene. That cracked me up.
The amount of CGI in Ultraviolet got to me. It looked like they'd airbrushed Milla in every shot. The plot also looked completely generic and uncharismatic.
In Underworld, they explicitly mentioned the bearing of the sunlight (or whatever) bullets, yet no one used them against Markus. I loved the jaw ripping scenes. I think the second one made me clap.
the ones who did the dirty work so the rest could sit around wearing corsets and engaging in intrigues.
Well, someone's got to enable the rest of us.
Watching Sky High. Despite being Disney-formulaic, it was pretty cute, and had some great lines, well-delivered (a couple of the Kids in the Hall were in it, as well as Bruce Campbell). Random thoughts:
- Bruce Campbell needs his own True Facts, a la Chuck Norris.
- It looked like it cost about $15 to make. What's up with that? Was it a Disney intern project?
- One of the kids is the child of a super-villain and a super-heroine. His name is Warren Peace. LOVED that. Also, his story could be a whole movie on its own.
- The climactic scene at the end has now become my mental image of depression, a thing completely unintended by the filmmakers.
My god, her butt! I also like that Scott Speedman continually and pointedly ended up shirtless, for no clear reason.
Yeah, not so much mattered, except that Speedman also seemed to have lost his belt. I couldn't tell you when, because as soon as his shirt came off I couldn't pay attention to other stuff. But it was riding way low by the end.
Yes. Yes. And yes.
I think Kate's ass put me into labor, btw. I'm glad I went to see it.
The Ultraviolet trailer was just some cruel trick to make me think they'd turned the series into a movie. Bastards.
