I have to confess an unhealthy love for the '60s TV show. And especially the '60s movie.

I enjoyed watching re-runs of the 60's series when I was a kid. I remember watching them every Sunday morning before Sunday School with my parents. I have no idea how well they'd hold up now. I've already had unfortunate realizations with Transformers: The Movie, Voltron and Thundercats upon coming across them in my adult life.

Though in 60's show's favor, at least I already know how cheesy it is.

Eeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! Venom! Venom! VENOM!!!!!

I know! Such an awesome trailer!

I'm worried that it's going to fall prey to "Too Many Villians" syndrome. Do we really need Venom, Sandman and the Green Goblin II in one movie? Especially when Peter has to get the symbiote, realize it's evil, get rid of it and then have it attach itself to Eddie Brock and become Venom in the same film that you've got these other two baddies running around.

Unless this thing is going to be 3 hours long, I don't know how they're going to pull it off without it being a chaotic mess.

It does seem to have the X3 issue of combining too many major storylines into one movie, and, um...maybe they'll pull it off? The trailer is so awesome! I have no idea why they need Sandman; I'd never even heard of him. I love that they're using Green Goblin II (I thought they were going to do Hobgoblin, but the trailer shows Osborne dodging a pumpkin bomb, so I guess not?) because it's continuous through the three films. And I love that they're using Venom because they really seem to be digging into the psyche of superherodom with each film.

Dude, Spidey 3 looks good. I don't love the Spiderman movies, but I appreciate that they are *about* something, that the characters in them deal with real human emotions and problems and challenges, albeit writ large.

I suspect (speaking from personal experience) that they hold up pretty well, not in an action/adventure way, but in that fact that, like Bullwinkle and The Tick, the show works on one level for kids and on another one completely for adults (although I think back in its day, the kids might have recognized more of the special guest villains - it looks like playing a Batman villain was "THE thing to do" for a certain type of celebrity).

In conclusion, I'm standing in the corner with Plei and Fred with the unhealthy love.

They started showing it on FX over here a few years ago. An hour a day, every day. I was watching it with a friend and her mum, and she asked her how they didn't recognise the rampant homoeroticism back in the day. "We didn't know about the gay back then" was her reply.

He's a Spidey villain from waaaaaay back.

DH and I were speculating that Topher Grace might not actually make it all the way to being Venom in this film -- that it might be Spidey v Evil Suit (and Sandman and GGII), with Topher only becoming Venom close enough to the end to set him up for Spidey 4. Because otherwise, yeah, WAY too many villains.
