I'm sorry. You were going to ask me to choose, right? Did you want to finish?

Thrive to spite them

I ended up googling The Seven Samurai remake and found this --

According to reports from China that are now making their ways to the US, The Weinstein Company is planning a remake of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. Because, you know, it REALLY needs improvement -- what is with that black and white crap, anyway? And who wants to read subtitles? Sigh. A loose-lipped representative of Mandarin Films claims that Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen met with Harvey Weinstein at Cannes about starring in the film, and that both Zhang Ziyi and well-known Asian actor George Clooney have been approached as well.

The guy who wrote this is just a wee bit upset at the idea of Clooney being cast in it. Sort of "omigod! how can they do it with Americans!"

In the comments someone points out that The Magnificent Seven is a very good remake of the movie.

I found another website that said the idea of a remake is basically just a pipe dream and will never happen. That article was dated 6/5/06. I'd link to that one but it has pop ups from hell and these weird mouse over ads.

That's sarcasm on the writer's part. I left out the last sentence

A white-guy farmer who moved to the village after the original movie was over, or something?

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

He could play Commodore Perry, in a big silly hat.

(Oh wait, it's Yojimbo that definitely takes place after the introduction of western influences. There's a pistol in that one -- and an unintentional Elvis impersonator, but that's neither here nor there -- but I think The Seven Samurai does take place in an earlier time.)

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Commodore Perry, very merry
President Filmore still more glad!

Yeah, I'd assume that if it's actually happening, the idea is to change the context of the story yet again.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I watched Memoirs of a Geisha last night. Very pretty to look at but DAMN was it BORING.

I couldn't even finish Casanova in spite of the Heath Ledgery goodness. It was just too lame.

Tonight I've got The Chronicles of Narnia--which I saw part of on the plane back from Puerto Rico but I want to see it on full sized and not through listening through the crappy headset.

I'm hoping Netflix rushes me The Three Burials of Melqiades Estrada.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

They've already posted a teaser for Ratatouille, next year's Pixar movie.

t breathes out

I've been sitting on that for almost a year. One of S's friends works for Pixar. He worked on several of their films, including Incredibles (but not Cars, Pixar people have a tendancy to alternate movies). He told us about Ratatouille a while back, and swore us to secrecy. I've been just dying to talk about it.

I know next to nothing, of course, except that it's about rats in a French restaurant, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Without watching the trailer (stupid being busy!) I didn't love the title. Now that I see what it's referring to, I CAN'T WAIT.
