We have someone coming in today to interview with us. Poor sucker! We have another candidate tomorrow. No one gave them any directions of how to get here from the hotel. I guess it's the first test of how smart they are.

The one at the hospital was pretty soothing-but-no-nonsense. She gave me latch tips, some shields as a last resort in case the flat nip refused to play nice, and the caution that there'd be some discomfort on that side until it was nursed on enough to no longer be flat.

The pede and the home visit nurse (the county offers them as a public health service) both assured me that as long as the yellow was confined to her face, there was no need to worry about her jaundice, but we did take her out in the sun for a couple of minutes each day until it cleared completely.

My lactation consultant was teh AWESOME. I was really lucky. The NICU nurse told me that the reason Em was sick was becaus I wasn't producing enough milk and not nursing properly. Terry (my LC) heard that, came into my room, dropped my gown, grabbed my boob and squirted the wall 6 feet away from me. Then did the same with my other boob.

"Dehydrated my ass. They use that word so much, it's lost all meaning. I'll go tell them a thing or two."

She made me feel so much better. Nothing worse (to me, at the time) than someone telling me my baby was hooked up to all that equipment and sick because of ME.

Olivia is doing great--she's already nearly back up to her birth weight so the nursing is obviously doing its thing. The jaundice is getting better (and we've been sitting the bassinet in front of the sunny picture window a little bit each day). So all is looking good.

My LC was pretty cool. I'd already related my nightmare experience from before to her and we just went over some finer points in technique (which I still didn't have down but the pain is a lot less this time). She was impressed with the girl's weight gain and retention after a feed, so I felt all empowered and stuff.

I'm glad to hear Olivia is doing well. Emaryn had to spend some time in the anti-jaundice tanning booth too.

Many attorneys around here (of both genders) take substantial time off for child care duties.

This is actually one of them main reasons the job appeals to me. It's for a staff attorney position which means (I think) that I would have a fair amount of control over my schedule. I'm not so worried about the money . I'd take less money for more flexibility any time.

I was away for a while so I missed a few posts.

Well, she's 8 months now. In my ideal situation, I'd start back around June 15th, so she'd be just over a year. I'm not sure how long I could hold them off (assuming they want me). Probably the earliest I could start would be May 1st, which would make Ellie 11 months. If I were to actually get the job, leaving Ellie with someone would be my biggest issue to deal with. Not only would I have to find someone but it would be in another country where I'm not currently living.

Cash, I'm glad to hear you visit with the LC went so well. That's great that Olivia is gaining so much and that the jaundice is going away.
