Do we raise more religious nutbars in the US than other countries? Man, it seems like it sometimes.
Fay thinks we do. She sees America as primarily a religious country, not unlike Egypt in that way, and distinct from England or France.

I think they get more airtime or something.
I didn't realize how religious this country was until I was an exchange student in Denmark. We seemed much more religious and conservative when I returned. OTOH, many countries where Muslims are in the majority seem pretty nutbar-y to me and the BJP party in India is pretty fucked up, too. Hell, I'm just not a fan of organized religion, period.
wrod. I hate watching people on television give him so many "man of the cloth" style props after all the just plain crazy or hate-mongering junk he says. And, yeah, Jesse, the man and his creepy show are like reason number one why the word "Christian" can make me say "Oh, crap." because probably every religious nut I've ever been hassled by has been a big fan.
Just so we're clear, I'm not equating religious with nutbar.
I just think we've got more devoutly religious people here and consequently our portion of nutbars is bigger.

Oh, totally. And we have a lot of people, period. It just irks me that so many decent people hear "Christian" and think "probably hates me for whatever fucked up reason." Because of the nutbars, I mean. IRKS ME, I tell you!
Right, I agree. But Osama Bin Robertson should die painfully. (And I don't feel guilty about thinking that since I've seen him call for other deaths.)ETA: I'm sad to think, Jesse, how often I really have thought that. They really are poisoning Christianity dreadfully, and not only by creating a situation where I'm glad to be...faithless.
It is possible to be devoutly religious without being a nutbar. I know plenty of people that are. Pat Robertson is beyond nutbar.
This country was founded on religious nutbar.

So true. That doesn't mean I have to like it!
