See, in my fantasy, when I'm kissing you... you're kissing me. It's okay. I can wait.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

And I can't help wondering if the original miscommunication got so widely spread so quickly because every media outlet wants to be the one to break the story

I also think the insta-updatability of the web contributes to this -- who cares if you report it wrong, as long as you report it first. You can always change it in ten minutes if you need to.

(Wasn't that a movie with Glenn Close? She played an evil newspaper head, and I think Tom Hanks was the reporter with strong morals who challenged her? And I think she dies in the end?)

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I can't blame the media as much as I usually would in this situation. The mine crews yelling joyous news and the family reactions would have been impossible to ignore. How very sad for everyone involved

Yeah, and it doesn't really matter for us that they were wrong the first time -- whether they run with the story or not the family members have their hearts broken.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

Did media learn NOTHING from the early FL announcements of 2000? I get reporting UNCONFIRMED things (as unconfirmed, natch), but C'MON!

Shit's all sorts of different now.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I think the media's role in this matters less, but is also less excusable. I can see how a guy on the ground hears what he thinks is miraculous news and races to tell the families ASAP. But where, precisely, did the newspapers get confirmation of this before running with the story? It's bizarre.

But for the families waiting in the church, I can't see that they give a shit what the major media is saying - they've got bigger things to think about.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Aimee, do you and Joe each have a pre-made playlist on the Batputer, in iTunes?

If so, you hook the Nano up to the Batputer, open iTunes (if it doesn't already open automatically), and then within iTunes, you select the Nano (as if you were selecting a CD, for instance). When the Nano's list of songs appears, delete them all. Then select your playlist and drag it to the icon of the Nano.

What is it with the Bush administration? Even if you think the law doesn't apply to you, at least keep that to yourself. Aren't they supposed to have some good PR people?
