I'm guessing it's an "I'm feeling lucky." I just had no idea it did that. I could have saved myself some time. But I can't predict when it'll work, because it's not doing it now.

Sometimes. I've tried it four times, and twice it took me to the site, and twice it tried to take me to volkswagensantamonica and displayed a failure message.

I mostly notice it when it's an annoyance -- I expect the other magical "add a www and a com" behavior, and I end up someplace I didn't mean to be.

I think I did it several times before I actually realized that was what I was doing. In my mind I had gone to Google and done the search.

For me (I use IE with Google bar), if you type something in the address bar that isn't a URL, it gets treated like a Google search.
