Nope, still haven't made it to Israel. However, it now looks like I'm only going to be in Egypt until the end of
this
academic year, so I need to get a move on if it's going to happen. Must admit that I'm feeling slightly nervous about it now, in the wake of the recent kidnapping-at-gunpoint of two blokes from our sister school in Gaza. And the kidnapping of 3 Britons last week. Nevertheless, I hear many nice things about Israel from friends who have been, and - Nilly!

Oh, it's lovely. There's so much to see, in such a variety. And you wouldn't even have to be in any of the (well, more) dangerous places, if you choose to. And - well, it seems like you already want to make that trip, so I don't really have to sell it to you, right?

On the bright side, I put up my old college roommate last night (she's still sleeping away in the living room), so I am starting out the new calendar year in a hostly & social fashion....

I still remember how impressed I was during the TT days when the Buffistas had a discussion regarding whether vampires can get into "eruv" or not.
...is just such a Buffista conversation, isn't it? Hee. It made me smile to read about it.
I just "met" a woman on LJ, who seems like a Buffista composite. She's a New Yorker, I think, but she is in Israel, with her husband who is a student in a rabbinical training program, and (wherever they're living, it's with other students). She's Orthodox, which makes me think of you and Wolfram. She volunteers at a zoo, which makes me think of billytea. She recently posted about wanting to get into some martial art of some kind (ita). She gets migraines (far too many Buffistas, but especially ita, right now). I don't know if I've read one of her posts that hasn't made me think of a Buffista.
Oh yeah... Not to be outdone by Christmas last year (which I spent dealing with a water heater that leaked all over), the power went out last night at 3am and while walking around unplugging things I discovered that the rain was leaking into the basement. I couldn't do much about it so I went back to sleep. Power was on by morning. But when I went back down there there was a lot more water. Turns out a sump pump system I didn't even know the house had had not switched back on when the power came on. I spent a good half hour or more soaking and wringing with a mop and only kinda getting rid of the worst of the leakage. I hope this isn't becoming a holiday tradition in this house. Mostly, this house feels like it has a good spirit.
Oh Spidra, I hope the pump takes care of the rest, quickly. My mother always called our old house (well, my parents' old house) a water house. There were always water issues of one kind or another. It was still a very happy house, though. I think all houses have their issues.

It talks about how there wasn't much TV aimed at teens when they first made their debut. It talks about the non-campiness of them, the straightforwardness of them, the cheesiness of them, and the constant (often negative) references to them in other shows and movies.
It's usually not a compliment. But there's something respectable, too, about having a reputation for being unabashedly, unrepentantly good.
