I awoke to the sad news that an LJ friend of mine (raveninthewind) posted -- her 18yo son committed suicide. I can't imagine what she must be feeling.

The annual "Shopping in America Holiday 2005" survey found that 75 percent of Americans plan to celebrate on New Year's Eve and each will spend an average of $172 on festivities.
But a regional breakdown of that spending pattern reveals that folks in the Northeast shell out the most — an average of $255.53 — on the big night, followed by Westerners with $169.32 and Southerners with $158.82.
Those in the Midwest spend the least, an average of just $119.45.
I wonder how much that's adjusted for cost-of-living differences, though.

Nora, I sent something to the e-mail you sent me something on.
Got the estimate on my car: $2600+ (it would probably have been more in actuality). Too rich for my blood - that will be money better spent towards a newer one. I could almost justify anything up to 2K, as I think it was worth twice what I paid for it, but beyond that I just can't justify it. At least it's over (or will be when I get out to Eastie and payoff the expenses and retrieve my plates).
I think I will go carless for the foreseeable, though. There are a few people who may be selling in the not-too-distant future.
