"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

That seems a pretty high threshold to me.

Yeah, Bitter Waitress better get ready for a long lifetime full of abject disappointment if anything less than 17% is considered an insult. Particularly if the site's theme of snotty entitlement is actually displayed to the customers before they receive the check.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Yeah, me too. Who gets to make that call anyway?

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

The PATH was not as fun today. It has been "discovered."

17% is definitely on the low end for NYC.

Jaysus. If not for my lazy math, this makes we wonder if I've been undertipping in LA. What's a standard NY tip?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

18-20%, I'd say. I generally calculate 20% and round down to the nearest dollar. If service was really good, I round up.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

baseline in NY is to double the tax - that gives you about 17%. People here usually round up to 20%, but that is so not typical for the rest of the country. Especially not for non "fancy" places.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

I usually do around 20% but not less than 15% . except at the cafe where I eat breakfast. sometimes there is tip , sometimes no tip, and sometimes a 20.00 goes in the tip jar. They only take cash - so it just depends if I haven't tipped in awhile. Or if the person who cuts Matt's hair and colors my hair would take anymoney - since it is her family that owns the cafe I throw extra in the tip jar that week.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I generally tip 20%, unless they fucked up the order badly and forgot our table. Then it goes down to between 17-15%. You'd have to personally insult my child to get a 10% tip.

brillig

Forget my table and I forget the tip. Get insulting and I chat with the manager.

I rarely tip under 20% because no matter what kind of service you provide it is expensive to live in NYC. Plus the waiter has to tip out to the people who actually do all the work, the busboys.
