Years ago, if you got a certain type of undefined error in Unix, it'd display the error as "printer on fire" or somesuch.

K- here are some points to think about
1) HDTV is not going away
2) right now, subscription rates are higher for HDTV
3) not everything is in HD
4) how long will it take you at current rate to get your downpayment?
5) how much longer will it take if you buy it, if you spend now
6) waiting for everything you want might be longer once you are in a house due to some unexpected expenses

You could also buy a HDTV-ready TV.
Also, I think flatscreen TV prices are still expected to drop a fair amount over the next year or two....

The fact that Tivo doesn't make an HD box right now has made my decision to delay getting an HD set MUCH easier. That and the not having any money.

My flatscreen monitor can do HDTV with a receiver (or whatever the thingamajig) so if it's urgent I suppose it could work out. But I needs mah DVR.
