Emily, sorry, I only know how to do that sort of division, nothing about the theoretical aspects that are actually "math".
Still worth the thinking! The question, should you have the time and feel like going, "Hmm, wonder why..." is this: if you divide f(x) by (x-a), why is the remainder always f(a)? It's sort of obvious why this is true for f(a)=0, but even when it isn't it's true, and I'm racking my brain as to why. It's gotta be something simple in the division algorithm, but my exhausted, Turing-filled brain can't figure it out.
Chandra Wilson should get a nom in Ass Kickingest category. You know, opposite Victor Garber and the like. I think Sandra Oh is the crispest comedic performer on the show, although Heigl's not bad.
Marie Antoinette trailer. That's honestly one of the worst trailers I've ever seen. I find it especially bad because it's all the stuff

than the movie that stink. WTF is up with the music? And the title card--give me 10 minutes in Powerpoint and I can whip up a better one.
I think the sentiment "You deserve to randomly get sent flowers, but I am personally too much of a flake to remember to do it" is a nice one.
I think it depends on why you like to get flowers. Do you like it because it means he thought of you just now? Because if it's about having repeated sweet things done for you, this isn't such a win.
On the other hand, since I buy my own flowers, hell, I could sign myself up. That would only be marginally sad, but it would save me having to go to the florist, and add some unpredictability to the whole thing.
I think it's much less common here than in the USA, and if at all, then in "flowers for shabbat", not strictly in the romantic sense.
Yeah, I don't have culture to blame, just my personality.
Ok- you know how sometimes in fanfic the abbreivations and portmanteaus can be craxy.
I just read a document created by my artistic director intended for stage management students to read to train them that contains so many abbrievaiations that my brain is spinning. There is the Production Manager (PM) the Production Stage Manager (PSM) the Props Master (PrM) the Assistant Props Master (AprM) the Assistant Production Manager (APM) the Assistant Stage Manager for Props (ASMPr). Then there is the Artistic Director (ArD), the Assistant Director (AD), the Assitant Wardrobe Coordinator (AWC), Audio Visual Engineer (AVI), the Assistant Stage Manager Costumes (ASMC)... and on and on
Good God!
I, as the Wardrobe Coordinator, get to be the WC.
But It takes me so long to figure out what the f*ck the abbr. stand for that it takes forever to read the document!
I think it's a nice thing, but nicer if you're not trying to pretend that it's you remembering.

This!
I think it's a nice thing, but nicer if you're not trying to pretend that it's you remembering.
And totally this.
And agree that it depends on the recipient. It probably would backfire if the girlfriend is the type to think it makes you a bad boyfriend if you aren't always sending flowers on the appropriate days.
But It takes me so long to figure out what the f*ck the abbr. stand for that it takes forever to read the document!
That's so annoying. A recent chapter of Econ was like that. @@
my exhausted, Turing-filled brain can't figure it out.
is this because you're crushing so hard on Turing that you can't focus on anything else? I hate that phase of a crush.
t /not helpful at all
(but then, trust me, you don't want my math help; that way lies disaster)
I talked to my brother last night and found out that they're getting married today in Cambridge at 4:30. They have rings and vows and everything, they're spending the night in a fancy hotel, and there'll be a party in the spring, with cake. So, yay!
Also, he was very baffled because he thought we'd
already
talked about it at some length a few days earlier. I'd called to check in on the imminent move to NYC, which I'd just heard about, and his first words to me were "So you heard the news?" and mine were "Yes, and I'm so excited for both of you!" and the conversation went on from there on two parallel but completely separate tracks. It was very entertaining, aside from the bilateral total cluelessness. But now it's all straightened out, they are properly congratulated for the proper big news, and I get a sweet and very handsome BIL at 1:30 my time. Plus, cake in a few months.
Still poor, but at least I have a rocking family.
I think it's a nice thing, but nicer if you're not trying to pretend that it's you remembering.
True -- as a recipient, I'd rather know about the service than not.

I think a lot of them are bullshit made up abbrevations. That would make me craxy.
Quick poll: Good idea or not?
I think it depends on the couple. I used to like getting flowers for unoccasions until I worked for a florist. Then I hated getting flowers, but only because I knew that the roses they were charging $60 for a dozen were being purchased wholesale for just over a quarter a piece.
