I'd bet that she has some history with (an) addict(s). It felt like a baggage-based response. Also, flashback-fodder!

She's been uncomfortable with Charlie's paternal behavior for some time, but tolorated it. His lying put her over the edge.
Charlie has a whole stash of Virgin Marys! Deliver him from temptation, lest Eko kick his ass.
The way Dom's playing it, I'm not too sure he hasn't been dipping into that stash already. He's sure acquired enough to keep him high for quite some time (at least a season or two).
Last night's pairing was a nice dichotomy--one who turns his back on his past for a new identity on the island (Father Eko), and one who says he's done the same, but clings to all aspects of his past (rock-music-singer-possible-drug-user-religious-devotee Charlie).
I thought it was interesting that Charlie was blaming his brother for him being bad, while Eko, I think< blames his badness for the death of his brother.

I agree; although, even with his stash, wouldn't he have been more freaked out when Eko burned the plane?
I'm thinking that Charlie was telling the truth when he said he had it as a form of insurance (Or however he phrased it.) It may comfort him in some oddball way to know that if he really wanted it, it was all right there. But not using it may make him feel good about himself. The drugs are his touchstone.
If there was ever a time when he was tempted, it's now. OTOH? His reciting of The lord's Prayer with Eko may have reinforced his desire to keep his objects of comfort just as they are.
It just seems like something Charlie would think Locke would do. Locke, on the other hand would probaly just stare at him.
I like to think that at some point in the show Charlie might in some quiet dramatic gesture, turn some over to Jack for medicinal use.
I am left wondering if there's some way to process it to a form that would be more useful, medically. Not that we want to get people hooked, but it could easily come in handy to have some high-quality painkiller around.
I think that might be my favourite episode so far this season. Eko is by far the most interesting character to come along in a while, and the Charlie storyline didn't even bother me. His "Are you going to beat me with your Jesus-stick?" line had me giggling like mad. As soon as we saw Eko with the cornrows, I went to the Adebisi place. If we're requesting Adebisi bits, I vote hair 'fro fork.
Did anyone else see things in the black mist monster thing? Little flashes? Ima go back and watch that scene, I think.

Well, all opioids are addictive, if you take them enough. The real problem with heroin that's in the middle of being transported across borders is that it ought to be unbelieveably pure and this very dangerous. If the Batcave has a giant canister of cornstarch, they should be able to dilute it to useable strength, don't you think?
But they'd have to use somebody as a guinea pig to find out the ideal smack:cornstarch ratio.

I guess I'll take striped sock.
