I had an 80 year old in some of my art classes at college. He'd been a sign painter all his life and was going back to get a fine arts degree.
That's definitely a "mature" student.
Buffy ,'Help'

I loved taking night classes in college because they were mostly composed of non-traditional students who were really there to learn (and not because Mommy and Daddy were paying the tab for them to find the location of every beer bust on campus). Class discussion tended to be insightful and there was no whining about homework and reading assignments.
I love having non-traditional students in classes I teach, for all the fabulous reasons articulated by Matt.
My college has a name/category for the "non-traditional college age" students. Which sets them apart but also makes them sort of special, and not in a short-bus kind of way. Certainly they had a much different point of view and priority list than mine. Very enlightening at times.
Non-spoilery excerpt from Yahoo's blurb for the next Lost ep:
Jack watches with interest as Kate gives Sawyer a long-overdue haircut.
sounds like a reason to watch tv.
Forgive me Buffistas for I have sinned.
Scott and I have been catching up with the large chunk (in the middle-to end) that we missed of season 1, and...
and...
And I like Shannon. There. I said it. Also? I think I like her with Sayid.
I am heartfully sorry for having offended thee.
Where do we line up to start the shunning?
Some of us have been shunning her for years, due to her WRONGness about another issue. But we luvs her despite her WRONGness and forgive her.

Also? I'm sorry she's dead.
So there.
I'm glad Boone's gone, though. I think Michael showed REMARKABLE restraint not murderlizing Locke and Boone, when they were alone in the jungle with his kid.
More also? In a rather early episode, Locke is doing something (looks like he's tanning, or doing something similar to boar hide) on the beach, and he's using a child's shoe to dump sand on his project. A child's shoe only comes from a dead child. It creeped me right out. I keep getting sucked in by Locke, and thinking he's harmless, and good, and then he creeps me out, again.
