I think Ben might have been telling the truth about Alex, apart from the where he said he didn't care.
About not being his daughter? That's true. Rousseau was already pregnant with Alex when her boat crashed on the island. Then when she had Alex, Ben's group stole her (Alex), and Ben raised her as his daughter.
Ben is a fascinating bastard. His small grin as he walked away from Sayid was like a slap in the face against all the good will he's generated otherwise this episode, but it was an INTRIGUING slap. Yeah, he may be the "good" guy ulitmately. It also wouldn't surprise me if eventually he had somebody he trusted put him down before the end at this point.
Ben doesn't trust anyone.
Does anyone else think that when Ben went into the closet he traveled off the island? Was he that dirty before he went in?
He wasn't that dirty before he went in, but I just assumed that the dirtiness was a result of setting loose the smoke monster.
So I'm starting to get the impression that Ben = SloanDaddy. He's such a fusion of Jack Bristow and Arvin Sloan, it's a little (hell - a lot) scary.
Man. That ep was entertaining. What a wild fucking ride.
so with all this "i can't kill you" crap between Ben and Widmore, i'm guessing they're each others constants or some crap. and if one kills the other, something baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad will happen to the other.

Ooh, that's an interesting idea.

Ha! Very nice.

I love Ben so much. That smile was awesome. Are we supposed to believe that he had Nadia killed just to get Sayid on his side? Because, Christ.
What a wild fucking ride.
I was really surprised when they killed Alex. I was sure she had to be faking or something.
So it looks like the entirety of everything is actually a game of Ben vs. Widmore in some way.

I was thinking that, too. That (although I'm sure that JJ Abrams didn't actually plan the series this way, not from the beginning) the island is the prize in a long battle between Ben and Widmore (Ben said that Widmore "changed the rules" twice in last night's episode, and I think that's telling), and that everything -- and everyone -- else is just collateral damage.
Including the crash survivors. Which is interesting, because it's a focus that, like I said, I don't think the series started out with. Not at all.
ION, I still have a hard time hearing Caleb from The O.C. have a British accent (though faint).

That, and Widmore's "That's MY island." I'm wondering if he funded the Dharma Initiative back in the day, and Ben somehow managed to undermine/take over.
I'm also intrigued by the possibility (as someone posited last night) that everything in the "real" world we saw with Ben could have happened during the brief period he was in his secret room.
