I'm trying to figure out why these Others would have been willing to let Michael, Sawyer, and Jin die out in the water. On the one hand, they seem benign, but they obviously aren't.

I can't see taking babies, children, and pregnant women as benign. I don't know what the purpose of the head games are. I just still can't get a sense of any actual plot. I enjoy watching Lost a lot, but most of it feels to me as if it were made up as they go along.
Benign is probably the wrong word...but at times they seem content to let the survivors alone. Then they show up and half-kill people and take children. I don't get it.
All the kids must have powers.
I find myself wishing the show would come clean about whether or not there are supernatural elements. It seems likely there are, but not definite. I have no feel for Lost mythology, or even if I should be looking for mythology.
I will be irritated if they try and rule out supernatural elements. Mocking if they fail, gobsmacked and still irritated if they manage to pull it off.
I decided that I'm along for the ride.
BTW, I think viewers "missed" part of the conversation between the woman guarding Walt and Michael. She said something like "it doesn't matter what you tell them, they will be angry no matter what" is this only in reference to Henry being freed?
I'm still trying to figure out why Michael shot A-L.
I'm still trying to figure out why Michael shot A-L.
Right. They didn't give him a time limit, so I'm not sure why he felt he needed to be in such a hurry.
I guess you could surmise that he was afraid A-L might eventually work herself up to capping "Henry", so he needed her out of the way, but that's a large assumption.
I don't understand why he didn't just hold the gun on A-L and let Henry out. Everyone would have forgiven him for letting him go if he'd told them the Others said they'd give back Walt.
well, right.
Yeah, but he'd have to follow that with "in addition to Henry, they want Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sawyer" and I don't see that going over well.
He panicked.
