Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

The simplest example I can think about regarding that mix comes from the ingredients available. Where my mom grew up, they practically never tasted any dairy products, and of course never used them for cooking.

That had to simplify keeping kosher considerably.

Ever since T-day I've had an absolutely ravenous appetite. It's 10:45 and I'm starving. I'm trying to hold out until noon.

My Atkins senses are tingling. I bet if you cut down on the cheap white carbs for a couple of days (bread, rice, potatoes) you will start to even out. And when you do snack go for protien or veggies.

the parts of my work that have to do with genetic epidemiology and cognitive science sometimes border on your systems stuff

Oh, so both neural networks and graph theory. Interesting.

that's where things are going, so I suppose I will have to.

Or, we could collaborate, and then be all embarrassed when we have to explain that we first got to know each other through a "Buffy" message board.

BTW, you've read Linked, right?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Lush. [er, to Rick]

Aha. And thanks. Internet 2 I'd heard of. I'm not sure what it all means, but there you go. So far it sounds a bit like Tad William's Otherland. I suppose I could read up more.

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

It's run out of U. Michigan.

Go Wolverines!

...sorry. Childhood conditioning.

assuming that they can't bounce off and go hit something else

I think they should bounce. It would explain all sorts of things. Instead of saying, "Someone must have walked on my grave," we'll say, "Someone's coldon particle emitter must have misfired." Much more Buck Rogers-y.

If we were sending the cold, wouldn't it be warmer here?

So I got a bite plate a few weeks ago that was supposed to be covered 80% by insurance. But when I paid at the dentist, the receptionist had the bill made up to look like it was only covered 60%, but the check came today, and it's for 80% coverage! Woohoo!

I know I'm not buying any more clothes this month, but I do need some fancy black hose to wear to the krav holiday party. By fancy I mean really really silky, and with a shimmer if possible.

Any recs?

I think that was part of it. So it's like stealing heat from the future, or something. Or at least from somewhere else.

That had to simplify keeping kosher considerably.

Well, it certainly complicates things, now. At the time, it was just the simple lack of most of the dairy products (or their relatively high prices), so almost all the food was made with meat/chicken. My grandfather could never grasp the notion of a dairy meal.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I'm a fan of DKNY hosiery, ita. Feels good, looks good, lasts a long time.
