Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I know a young woman who has the misfortune to have contracted genital herpes.

She is on a daily regimen of Valtrex to prevent symptoms from manifesting themselves.

Recently she took her prescription to a pharmacist who was apparently a fundamentalist Christian.

Not only did he refuse to fill the prescription, but he tore it up and handed it back to her, saying, "God is punishing you for your sin."

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

I am not Michelle Yeoh. Why not?

That story about the guy who kills someone and started polishing his fingerprints off things obsessively is a Ray Bradbury short story. There's another story, also about a cat in an enclosed space, which is the shortest short story Ambrose Bierce wrote. It's about a half-closed casket at a funeral, and all the mourners lined up nice, and out of the close dhalf of the casket, the cat emerges licking its lips in satisfied fashion.

Just that nasty jolt, no real characters or arc or anything. I think a lot of short stories stay famous in order to prove to seventh graders that the past was not all bonnets and CBS movie. If your main exposure to the 19th century is earnest novels about the Civil War and Little House on the Prairie, then Poe, Jack London, and Ambrose Bierce are rather the wake-up call.

Also, they appeal to the gothy tendency among middle-schoolers. Certainly, I cottoned to London a lot more easily than I did to Mark Twain, because it wasn't till I was an adult that I could read past the surface-level funny.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

The story tommyrot linked to - is my fear of this right to refuse. The only time a pharmasit should be questioning things is when the perscription is way beyond the norm or if there are conflicts with other medications.

ION, I made the dough fro chocolate crinkle cookies. accidently, they were made partly with splenda.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Despite large financial woes, I decided to be completely irresponsible and go on a shopping spree for new clothes.

And not practical clothes. Fuck that. I never have anything pretty to wear and I'm tired of wearing the same shit everytime I want to look pretty.

I purchased: A leather jacket (a bit past my hips, button down) with a pink silky lining, a silk blouse in a lovely shade of baby blue, a dark rose colored v-neck sweater, liz claiborne jeans, a sexy halter in washed out rose with pink sequin stripes, a sexy halter in this indescribable blue with a handbeaded design thingy on it, a new black hoodie, with silvery beads along the edges, and a new bra.

Total? A hair under $300.00. I bargain hunted, picked through piles of last season's shit at Macy's, and then there was a kerfuffle at the register and I helped the saleslady maintain caalm so she gave me her family and friends 20% discount on my already sale-priced and clearance stuff. I saved about $175.00.

And I have beautiful things to wear.

I kept tags and receipts in case panic sets in tomorrow.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Are you going to wear them and love them, Allyson? Knowing they'll get used and live happily with you should help ease the panic. Keeping the receipts should too.
