And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

C'mon, you can tell me, you guys just crammed it in before Christmas for an extra day off, right?

No, we crammed it in before Christmas to have an extra two days off. Why else would it be celebrated on a Thursday?

And Canadians have Thanksgiving, just not today.

hip deep in pie

That was the summer of the Kahnawake (sp?) fiasco where someone was trying to extend a golf course onto sacred land, and there were big guns, and a standoff, and then another friend had just mentioned that South Africans officials had at one point travelled to Canada for apartheid tips, so I just looked at her funny, but, you know, you guys have good PR, and who doesn't have skeletons?

My friend's uncle was minister of Indian Affairs during the Oka crisis, and my friend said he's never heard such racist things come from someone's mouth as his uncle.

We're no means perfect.

Hey ita, did you hear reports that they found info on the Montreal Metro system of one of the Madrid bombers? I was watching the news last night, and I kept thinking, "Not Montreal!" [link]

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

It feels too early to be awake. 6:15, when it's this dark outside and in, is somehow a huge indignity.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Ack! Leave Montreal alone!!!

Chinese float liquid condom concept.

It's dark inside because not everyone's up yet. I'm sure the rapid clicking of powerbook keys and the ghostly glow on our faces will wake them up soon.

Or maybe I'm too much of a morning person with insomnia to understand the persistence of a holiday sleep-in.

My sleep schedule has been so wacked lately, this feels almost normal.

Hey, it's perfectly OK to like to be up early!

I can never decide which is more fun: sleeping in and getting up late (including waking up on the regular time, stretcing, smiling to myself for not-needing-to-get-up and going back to sleep), or getting up early and read, make a jigsaw puzzle or the like, long before everybody else wakes up.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Timelies! I'm not going to NJ after all, so I have no plans for today. I'm not even sure what friends are at loose ends (not many, I think) so I may just have to go to a movie by myself.

Happy Turkey Day, lovely Buffistas.

Catch y'all on the flip side.

...and with that, off to Maine.

This is precisely normal for me, since it's just a little earlier than I'd have woken up for work.

The funny part is Kristen and Kat sitting at the same table as I am, in their own early-morning Powerbook glows.

But they're gone now, and I'm all alone.

Well, at the table, anyway.

Please explain to the skipping skippppmpper how this happened.

My guess: you are all together someplace for a not-blood-related-family but rather good-friends-family for Thanksgiving. And now I hope that I'm right, because that would be lovely.
