If it rhymes, you must acquit!
This is what I'm saying. I actually had to laugh at the guy on NPR this morning who said that the President has made four SC nominations and three have been white men, and the other one sucked. Counting Roberts twice.
Argh. I cannot decide what to do about stupid Halloween. Everything I have to wear is not that cute and/or too hot for today with its high of 70.
Defend yourself against the coming robot rebellion
He did the other research by posing scenarios to fellow robot experts at CMU and elsewhere -- such as how they would fire a weapon at a robot or how they would stop a giant walking robot -- and noting their responses.
Wilson's office mate, Garth Zeglin, is an expert in walking robots currently working at a university in the Netherlands.
"I'd say, 'Garth, how big can a humanoid robot get?' And they're kind of like, 'This is stupid and pointless and there's never going to be a robot uprising, but how big could a robot be? ... Twenty minutes later I've got this page full of notes," Wilson said.
Female science fiction fans now outnumber men for the first time.
The digital television channel Sci Fi UK has seen a 10 per cent rise in the number of female viewers over the past eight years and 1.4 million women now tune in - 51 per cent of the audience. The channel, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, links the rise in "girl geeks" to the proliferation of heroines such as Buffy, Lara Croft and Xena.
Adam Roberts, a science-fiction author and a professor in English at Royal Holloway, London University, said fantasy television programmes and films were becoming more character-led. "Programmes are moving away from the emphasis on machines and zombies in the 1960s," he said. "More women are tuning in to see the relationships develop between wittily-written, complex central characters they can identify with. A film like The Matrix attracted female viewers partly because it was about complicated concepts of life and death. It also had Keanu Reeves running around in leather, which helped."
Bloody noses and attack of the static. Must be fall.
I forgot it was halloween until I left this morning and there was a very large man dressed very accurately (nothing halfassed about it) as a clown in the parking lot. Took a minute for me to come up with why someone might be doing that at 8:30 am.
From the few times I saw snippets of Roswell, they sure made Roswell look much, much more interesting than it actually is. Not to slur your hometown or anything, Raq, just.... An indie movie did the same thing with Las Cruces some time back. There was much hooting in the theater .

Happy Anniversary, Jilli and Pete!
Happy Halloween, everyone!
I couldn't be arsed to put together a costume this year, so I'm just dressed in all black. I had intended to wear black lipstick, too, but I must have finally thrown out my old tube, because I couldn't find it this morning. Ah well. Haven't decided yet what I'll do tonight to celebrate.
My office is surprised that I am not dressed up. I am however wearing my candy corn sweatrer and carrying a plastic jack-o-lantern as a purse.
Today when I woke up, 43 degrees. Today's expected high, 70 degrees. WRONG WRONG WRONG. so not easy to dress for. stupid weather.
Happy Birthday, Daniel!
Happy Anniversary to Pete and Jilli!
