she was always giving me presents ahead of time, and I would get mad because I wanted surprises on Christmas morning.
This is my mother. Last year was the first time in a very long time she didn't do that. She does the same thing for birthdays as well.

Missed this earlier. My mom still tries to do this, or at least tries to tell me what they are, but I've been insistent enough to keep safe so far. It's funny, because she was fine when I was a kid, but has been doing this for the last few years.

I shouldn't have said "was", because my mother is still doing it. Every time she sees me "Oh, you look cold why don't you wear this sweater I got you for Christmas" or "You need clothes for work, how about this?" or something similar.
