Spike's Bitches 27: I'm Embarrassed for Our Kind.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Silence means security silence means approval

I'm actually not sure I'd agree with my husband on this one--at least, I'd say the English church I attended, while borderline happy-clappy, didn't strike me as a bad re-tread of American evangelicalism.

Two different towns, I guess. And the church I went to wasn't that happy-clappy. They were just your classical evangelical Anglican places with your mix of religion and social activism.

And FWIW, these days it seems like one or two British musicians are creating all the (often bad) contemporary Christian choruses getting sung to death in the American church. The culture flows both ways, IOW.

It's kinda like Bollywood in a way -- we send them films, they remix them with Indian culture and subplots, and then they come back to America. The oddity is that American Christians see what comes from Britain with authority, and it's not as well filtered as it should be.

I'd like to see more churches use this one:

I'd love to see our church use it, but I cringe at the thought of the downtempo minor key emo-sung-by-John-Mayer stylings of the ensemble touching it. It would be... just wrong.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Daniel, I prefer

All things dull and ugly, All creatures short and squat,
All things rude and nasty, The Lord God made the lot;
Each little snake that poisons, Each little wasp that stings,
He made their brutish venom, He made their horrid wings.
All things sick and cancerous, All evil great and small,
All things foul and dangerous, The Lord God made them all.
Each nasty little hornet, Each beastly little squid.
Who made the spikey urchin? Who made the sharks? He did.
All things scabbed and ulcerous, All pox both great and small.
Putrid, foul and gangrenous, The Lord God made them all.

Aimee, at least tell me it wasn't the cat that caught on fire.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Aimee, at least tell me it wasn't the cat that caught on fire.

Nope.

However, we have no more highchair tray.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

You caught the baby on fire?!?!?!

eta: These italics and interrobang were intended for comedic purposes only. The poster knows that the subject loves and takes good care of said baby and would never catch her on fire.

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

evangelical Anglican places

I didn't even know those words went together.

So, an update: vw called from her erranding around 5:30 to say she was going to the ER and could I meet her there. I just got home, and she's still there. She'd had three nebulizers and was about to get a fourth, had another small dose of steroids (enough to bring her dose for today up to the amount they gave her last night), and was sounding... moderately better? But not a lot. We figure she'll probably be there at least another hour. The most irritating thing, to me, is that the treatments make her all shaky, so there's no way she can sleep while she's waiting for them to come back around and take another look at her. I left her with her iPod, crocheting, my New Yorker, so I'm hoping she'll be able to keep at least a bit occupied.

All is well that ends in pizza.

You caught the baby on fire?!?!?!

You haven't seen the end of The Incredibles, then?

BWAH!!

No, the highchair tray and a washcloth were placed on the stove over the pilot light. The sliding kitchen door was closed and I smelled it. I ran into the kitchen, saw the fire, yelled for Joe, grabbed the extinguisher, sprayed the stove, floor and sink.
