Just get your current landlord to say the that the cat hasn't trashed the place.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
but how the fuck do I get a reference for my cat?
Your vet, maybe?
I've seen a couple of listings where there is a "pet interview" as well.
After Ruby has been in the car, in her carrier, hauled into a strange place, and then have a complete stranger reach in to the carrier and try and touch her?
Oy.
Do cats really trash an apartment? Do they mean like, spraying?

Has your cat ever attended school or had a job? If so, you should be able to get references there. Otherwise, you might want to consult with experts in the fields of string or small mammals.
Hello, all. We heard about Miers withdrawing at a business lunch, and spent the rest of the hour feeling kind of sorry for her. We wondered if the whole thing had been a really mean high school joke, like Dick Cheney said, "Hey, let's nominate the ugly girl. "
Perhaps my mind is stuck on Veronica Mars.
At least poor Harriet saw the writing on the wall, and did not put herself through an in-person humiliation. But the person who comes across most poorly in all this is GWB -- I can just see C.J. Cregg beating him on the head with her handbag.
The tenant in the place before us had a cat and she scratched a hole through the vinyl floor in the kitchen and they had to replace the entire thing.
Notice me, over here, not commenting on the damage a cat can do. Nooooo, my cats would never do anything like that.

Some do. I've seen staircases that had to be pretty much recarpeted because cats used them as really long scratching posts. And then there's cat piss soaking through the carpet, the pad, and into the flooring. My downstairs neighbor has to keep her front window closed or the cat comes up to the screen and takes a dump through it. Which isn't exactly trashing the apartment, but doesn't sow joy among the neighbors.
But most of that seems to be cat-and-owner problems combined.
Nutty, I wanna see that, too, despite seeing maybe ten WW in my whole life.

Heh. Ruby sounds a bit like Devi, which is to say, minimal impact on the infrastructure. Back when he was sick, I spent lots of money on special cleaners for where Mister Kitty was peeing. Thank god, not on the carpet.
