I stubbed my toe last year, which wouldn't have been that memorable, except that beyond the first day it was completely painless -- and covered top and bottom with the most purple-y bruise you could imagine. It looked like I should be recumbent with my foot elevated, but I could walk and wear shoes and wiggle it just like normal.

Later on the same year, I stubbed another toe, which was so painful that it had to be buddy-taped after I spent a day out of work because it hurt too much to walk. The visible bruise on that toe was negligible.

Note to self: bodies freaky.

Worst bruise in recent memory would be my foot, after I stumbled off the curb. It was dark and heavy with blood, the kind of bruise that had people demanding to know if I'd been to the hospital.

Ah, bruise stories. Biggest scare I ever had was waking up this past July 4 in Maine, a day on which I had a wedding/reception to attend (where I was one of the groom's men/ushers) in Lewiston and a family reunion on Peak's Island off of Portland, and found out I had a hematoma in my left...glute, shall we say, that had spread EVERYWHERE it could while I slept. I'd been having what felt like a knotted muscle there the whole week before, but who knows what the problem was. It was so dark, purple and huge area-wise that I had no choice but to go to the emergency room. Nothing ever came of it - it took a few weeks to fade and that was it. Blood work showed nothing going on there, so it was just a completely random, MASSIVELY SCARY incident.

I've never had quite the scare I did that morning when I was about to get in the shower and noticed it - it was one of those "Oh shit, am I going to die? What the hell do I do now?" moments.

I did end up making both the wedding and the reunion, thankfully, though I was a might bit distracted at both.

Worst bruise I ever had was in high school. At a chorus rehearsal, I tried to step over a chair (don't ask) and tripped over instead. My thigh slammed into the chair back on the way down. It was a rainbow of colors, and I had this big knot of tissue for a while, with ancillary bruises on my ribs.

I keep breaking my little toe by walking into things, so that whole side of my foot swells up black every time I do. I also got a very impressive black eye when I got a shoulder in the face playing rugby in school, and nasty black and purple running all up my forearms when I did Tae-Kwon-Do as a kid.

When I'm working in the field my knees are pretty much constantly purple for the first few weeks, then they just get used to it.

None, of them are particularly fancy though. Which is probably a good thing.
