Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

That Scottish story is so much more interesting as fiction than as truth.

Not for me. Too many things can happen in fiction -- I don't wonder at their plausibility, what makes people in my world go that far, do those things. In make-believe, stuff like that happens all the time.

Ah, well I agree there. It's not interesting for the story once it's fiction so much as it is interesting to ask why such a figure needed to be conjured up. Er, for me anyway.
