Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Thanks, Robin, I'll suggest she think along those lines.
yay Consuela!
And birthday Kristen!
( I kinda wish these things silently, to avoid empty otherwise posts. But hey, I have content!)
My cats don't like wet carpet. They start to walk on it, get this weird look on their faces, then back up to skirt the edges. I've got fans blowing on it, but I hope it dries quickly. Have the a/c and dehumidifier running, but a, wearing long sleeves, pants and a sweater bathrobe. Kinda chilly.
See? Content.
I broke down and washed my hair for the third time today. First was wakeup shower. Must have. Second was salon. Third...apparently aveda products are still giving me headaches. Which is sad, because I like the smell, just...not for more than a couple hours. I can deal with lavender (one of the main smelly components, I think, and one I use at home without problems) but something else in them just is a nasty trigger of some sort.
So, I walked all over the city today with the parents, which was good, but now I'm EXHAUSTED, due also to not nearly enough sleep last night. But it was fabulous weather, and we had a lovely time, even though we failed to get the cheap Wicked tickets. Also found the perfect midtown afternoon snack place that I really really hope I remember about the next time I have that issue.
What is the official Vatican policy towards aliens? Independent Catholic News tackles the issue: [link]
In: Intelligent Life in the Universe? Catholic belief and the search for extraterrestrial intelligent life, author Guy Consolmagno SJ, asks:
Would humans recognise intelligent life if we saw it? Could we communicate with it? Should we even try? Is Original Sin something that affects all intelligent beings? Is Jesus Christ's redemption valid for intelligent beings throughout the universe? or would other worlds have their own version of Jesus? Would the Church send missionaries to ET planets?
Aw, thinking fondly of my own parental visit earlier this summer. They just there for a long weekend?
You know what? I'm being all judgy of my neighbor across the way. He has a preteen daughter. And at least every other weekend, it seems she gets to throw a party. Red lights(!) replace the usual, there is that damned milkshake song on loop/remix and a siren lamp in her bedroom. At 10:40 at night.
Of course, I'm appalled at my friend who lets her 5 year old stay up as long as she wants, no matter she had to get up at 7, at the latest. They always marvel that I've got the kids tucked down by 8 when I babysit. Dudes, the kiddos are exhausted at 7:30. They fall asleep the minute you make them lay down.
I'm much more a hardass than I appear, as an unparent.
They just there for a long weekend?
Short weekend. They didn't get in til like 11 last night, will leave after lunch tomorrow.
There are always little kids playing outside when I get home at 10:30, and it weirds me out.
In other news that weirds me out, my apartment has some crazy fumes in it and I don't like it. Maybe the neighbors painted or something? Dunno. Weird.
I remember being 10ish and having to go to bed at 8 when it was still light. And being all resentful. Then falling asleep.
It wasn't until high school I got to dictate my hours, and even then, the preference was 10 pm (because that's when the parents crashed) but I got dispensations for when I was to be out later. I remember ONCE staying up until 11 before that, finishing a project when I was 13 or 14. It was on Billy the Kid. That was the night the neighbors' house across the street burned down . I ended up getting 3 hours sleep and not going in to turn in the project, due to the lack of sleep. And the freaking firemen and police parked in our livingroom (the neighbors got out and were brought to our house.)
OMG. I just had one of the best meals EVAH with Beth B and Matt. We went here: [link] and had five spice rolls, mango snapper, chicken satay, and chili crab.
I feel like I may never need to eat again, and I can't wait to go back.

Yay! (except for the tired part). Did you all squee a lot about your fabulous week?
