Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
And when you tell the world to fuck off and bite you (sequence not mandatory), then what happens?
My black heart smiles.
FTR: I am cranky as cranky can be today.
What's expressive association?
A first amendment right that the Court upheld in the Boy Scouts case. Who you associate with can be an expressive act that should not be unduly burdened by the government.
Who you associate with can be an expressive act that should not be unduly burdened by the government.
Does that mean my company can fire me because of my religion too? Where are the boundaries drawn?
I thought our Constitution had "freedom of religion." Did something happen to our Constitution while I was asleep?
Who you associate with can be an expressive act that should not be unduly burdened by the government.
And not recieving federal funding qualifies as an undue burden?
Does that mean my company can fire me because of my religion too? Where are the boundaries drawn?
I don't know First Amendment all that well, so there's only so well I can parse this. My impression is that no, your organization does not use its membership "expressively", whereas the Scouts do.
They also could have asked Fred Flintstone. What's he gonna eat at the drive-in, now that brontosaurus burgers are no more?
Brontosaurus:apatosaurus :: chilean sea bass:patagonian toothfish?
And not recieving federal funding qualifies as an undue burden?
I haven't read the case. All I know is the NPR para, so I assumed the burden would be not being able to discriminate in hiring on the basis of religion.
My impression is that no, your organization does not use its membership "expressively", whereas the Scouts do.
Interesting. I wonder if some of the touchy feeling corps that blossomed in the 90s that give their employees twee designations are being expressive, or if when it comes down to the paperwork it's just a semantic dance.
I didn't think of Sally Ann as expressive in that way, but I do know precious little about them.
