I was wondering because I saw a lot of women sans corset. As a civil war reenactor, that sets me on my teeth. The women dressed as pre-1500-ish wouldn't wear one.
Costuming standards and conventions are admittedly much less rigorous in the SCA than in the re-enactment groups. There isn't any rigour at all, really. However, there is social/peer pressure to learn about your chosen time period and make your gear more accurate over time. Having said that, the ladies who choose late period (by our standards) personas, tend to have really good clothing. On the overall subject of clothing accuracy at Pennsic, well, I saw a ninja in the marketplace. You tend to develop filters about these things. With no enforcement body in the organization, the general standard isn't very high, but that's not what the SCA is about. It is a big tent organization where people learn about and express their interest in the middle ages. You get everything from the astonishing to the miserable.

Sorry, Epic, I missed this post in my zipping back and forth between computers at lunchtime. The answer is no, my last tiara exchange tiara is the snazziest ever, thanks (but my coronet is pretty cool, the band is all little spheres that roll).
