The weird thing where I work is that and Administrative Assistant is exempt and salaried at about 24,000-26,000 per year, and a Secretary (which I am) is non-exept and hourly. I make, working 40 hours per week, 26,000. And the policy here is that we "don't pay overtime so don't work it". But what I don't understand is why not make me an administrative assistant, where I would be exempt?
Spike's Bitches 26: Damn right I'm impure!
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Maybe they wanna be able to pay you less if for some reason you end up working less than full time on a regular basis?
I get paid overtime, which made those 60 hour weeks over the summer worth something at least. (my salary is based on a 35 hour workweek)

Without knowing the details, my guess is benefits -- at least around here, there are different packages for hourly and salaried employees, and those can add up to a lot more $$ for the looniversity even if they're paying you exactly the same amount to take home with you.

Beats "We don't pay overtime and want you to work it anyway." In other words, my first job.
"We don't pay overtime and want you to work it anyway."
Ahhhh.... my current job. (We do have some non-exempt people and when they work over 40 hours, they get OT. I'm exempt and regularly work over 40.)
Hey Hec! It is sitting in front of the tv, awaiting wrapping paper. How old??? 10?
Well, was anemic. Again. REALLY low too. Ummm, I guess the fact that I've been sitting in my office wearing a leather coat since I got in should have been a clue.
SO tired of this.

Awww! He's 9 today.
Who signed it, incidentally?
Do I really have to go to work?

This sort of makes sense. I know that salaried people get more vacation time, and can save more up.
as long as you are here, amych, have you found at your looniversity that everyone seems to either be the director or assistant director, or a secretary? I think it is weird, but I don't know if it is peculiar to my school.
