Without knowing the details, my guess is benefits -- at least around here, there are different packages for hourly and salaried employees, and those can add up to a lot more $$ for the looniversity even if they're paying you exactly the same amount to take home with you.

Ahhhh.... my current job. (We do have some non-exempt people and when they work over 40 hours, they get OT. I'm exempt and regularly work over 40.)

This sort of makes sense. I know that salaried people get more vacation time, and can save more up.
as long as you are here, amych, have you found at your looniversity that everyone seems to either be the director or assistant director, or a secretary? I think it is weird, but I don't know if it is peculiar to my school.
