Australian doctoral candidate and showgirl Lola the Vamp presents a lecture discussing her research in the field of burlesque performance, including aspects of desire in performance, the body as inscriptive surface, and the idea of the fetish object: "becoming doll." Lola argues that the dissolution of subject/object binary allows for greater freedom in how to be a woman today, by calling into question the pop culture feminist concern of the objectification of the woman's body. She ends by asking the question that perhaps the conscious objectification is a sign of our freedom today as women to choose how to be in the world at any particular moment.

Heh. After junior year of college, I was like "wow, my nails are so nice all of a sudden! Why is that?". And then I realized I wasn't working in lab anymore, so I wasn't washing my hands in straight bleach every day.
