I do stand up for Elmo himself, because my kids adore(d) him, and so he won my loyalty. Did Sara first learn the original one, or the version they use for the "Elmo's World" portion of Sesame Street?

Probably Elmo's world. But she's heard both. It's so funny -- Zoe is "ZaZoo" and Elmo is "LaLa" according to the Divine Miss Sara. She can say Elmo -- she just won't.
I like Elmo. He's sweet and good-natured and fuzzy. No bad there.
