Well, we may not have parted on the best of terms. I realize certain words were exchanged. Also, certain... bullets. But that's air through the engine. It's past. We're business people.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Ahh, the wonders of the age of instant gratification.

I had the itch to hear the theme from "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" (starring Patrick McGoohan, and a really creepy mask) and was able to download it from a blog.

That song really haunted me when I was growing up.

Insert joke about redundancy here.

Shir, I couldn't find the disk i was looking for with the Billy Bragg song. It wasn't in any of the usual places I have CDs.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

This is a few days late, but I haven't had internet access this week: RIP Miriam Makeba. I didn't know much about her personal life (five husbands, and a proposal from the president of Guinea!), but she devoted her life to spreading awareness about apartheid in South Africa, and was exiled from the country for 30 years, until 1990. I saw her perform at a small club in Cape Town about six years ago, and she was amazing; her voice wasn't quite what it had been, but she radiated energy, and her love for South Africa was clear and infectious.

Her breakthrough performance in the movie Come Back Africa, 1960

Ann, that's a ferret.

I heard a couple of items on the radio recently that should interest fans of '60s music.

Over the weekend, I heard an interview with Ron Dante. The Archies are about to release a Christmas album. More albums are planned. No word on whether original bandmembers other than Dante are involved, but Betty and Veronica are expected to do more lead vocals.

Also, in unrelated news, Mary ("Those Were the Days") Hopkin is about to release a new album.
