There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

What kind of music do they play?

Dirty, punk-influenced Southern rock. So, kinda like Lucero, but more toward the '70s rock side than the alt-country side.

Because books.

Thank you, Sophia! I must have skipped over that the other day, because of the wrong title.

Thank you!

Well, crap. You know I'd be there if I could.

I'll have to check out that soundtrack - sounds fun.

x-posted to my lj: So... I'm looking for a bandom song to bellydance to. Prefer MCR, FOB is okay, and you'd have to convince me on Panic. It's for a rock-themed bellydance evening, but might make an appearance at the F2F, if I do. *g*

Limit to 4 minutes, but could possibly crop it.

Thoughts, ideas?

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

smonster: This is none of those bands, but it's rock and has (to me) a belly dancing beat. [link]

DJ - fun song, and v. familiar! Has it been used on a promo or something?

I don't know-maybe in a movie? Their songs are a lot of fun.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

"The Nightmare Before Christmas 2-Disc Special Edition Soundtrack" will introduce nine new tracks to the original recording, including new versions of songs re-recorded by Marilyn Manson, Panic! At the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Fiona Apple and She Wants Revenge

Y'know, I *should* like this. It's the sort of thing that should make me squeak with glee. But I just listened to all the linked songs, and had the same reaction as the first time I heard them. In JilliLand, NO ONE covers songs from Nightmare Before Christmas. Yes, I know I am being a cranky unreasonable elitist goth snob. I know.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Huh. So Scarlett's Tom Waits album has a really left field premise.

Instead of doing the lame, torch jazz versions I expected she and TV On The Radio guy use Tom's songs as an excuse to create a really lush, sort of Mercury Rev's Deserter's Songs baroque pop album.

I dislike that they doubled Scarlett's voice the whole time. And some songs like "Town With No Cheer" really miss the point of the lyrics. But some of the other songs like "Falling Down" (itself more of a pop song) and (surprisingly) "Anywhere I Lay My Head" work this way.

I mean, they're not better, and Scarlett's voice is almost superfluous in these arrangements (Hope Sandoval would've been better) but it's an interesting exercise. It's all about Tom Waits the Melodist.
