Speaking of covers, probably my favorite is the Stripped version of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" sung just by Patrick, with his electric guitar. It's raw and imperfect and gets me every single time. I ration myself on it
Here is why I love YouTube! I watched that. Then I watched
Never Tear Us Apart.
Then I watched
Stuck In A Moment.
I mostly listened to them, actually. Its like a jukebox for my brain.
It's not
all
bandom, by the way.
Fall Out Boy [link] lead me to Cobra Starship [link]
Two members of Cobra have a side project called This is Ivy League [link] (Which is not so much bandom. It's not Decaydance anyway.)
Ivy League had a record launch party on Monday. One of the bands that opend the show was The Mood [link]
Tonight some friends and I went and saw The Mood. They rocked.
This Is Ivy League makes me want to have some sort of laid-back bachelor pad with a lot of wax-covered wine bottles and shag carpet.
I mean that in a good way.
And then, The Black Parade. Dramatic, bombastic, the lovechild of Queen and David Bowie, with guest vocals by Liza Minnelli, and gothy marching band uniforms. It was like they designed it just for me.
Yeah, Jilli nails it. That's how they got me!
I was trying to explain my love of MCR to my brother over Christmas, and I was explaining that they are like the new Queen, whom we both loved when we were kids (and still do). He said, "But they don't have Freddie Mercury! It's not the same!" and I had to laugh, because GERARD WAY, dude.
Also, a band I love that is tangential to bandom: has anyone heard The Sounds? (Lead singer Maja Ivarsson is the incredibly hot woman in the "Snakes on a Plane" video.) They're Swedish new-wavey synth-pop, very catchy and fun, and I love Maja's voice. Here's "Seven Days a Week": [link]
Unf, The Sounds. Unf, Maja.
(Seriously, Maja kinda robs me of all higher brain functions. But I do like their stuff.)

The Sounds are good stuff! I've seen them live, too, with Kill Hannah and Ima Robot. Fun times. I have the first album (with "Seven Days a Week").
Plei or anyone else, do you have any This is Ivy League you'd be willing to share? Neither itunes or Lala are giving me any love with them.
Okay, I've been poking around MCR and FOB this weekend.
I really am not feeling it for FOB. They irk me massively. "Thnks Fr Mmrs" (or however the vowel-less song title is spelled) drives me fucking BATSHIT. I violently dislike their cover of "Beat It," and "Dance Dance" did not, in fact, make me want to dance.
Although Amy sent me "Sugar, We're Going Down," which I *really* like. So, there's that.
MCR, on the other hand, is pretty catchy and fun. I listened to "I'm Not Okay" at the gym yesterday about 5 times in a row, because it's SO perfect on the elliptical. "Teenagers" made me laugh my ASS off, in a good way. I'm not crazy about the way "Welcome to the Black Parade" is structured, but I really dig the last half or so of it.
So, I may have to buy "The Black Parade." Or at least some of the songs.
IOnonbandomN, I blame goddamn NPR for making me want to buy the new Gnarls Barkley. They reviewed it the other day, and it sounds really good, in an old-school soul way, a la Amy Winehouse (ish).
Oh, and the lead singer of MCR (at least when he has black hair)? Looks eerily like Deena's son Nick.
"Sugar, We're Going Down" is so good. I can send you a few more if you want. You might like "Seven Minutes in Heaven (Atavan Halen)," too.
You'll probably like the earlier MCR stuff, as well, Tep. I don't know if anyone sent you any of that, but I can if you want.
No Panic love?
