Jilli, I'm an avid grunge fan (well, I'm young). And I'd really, really, really like to read more about the sexist side of it (you'd think that I'd cover it with my undying admiration and ability to talk about The Afghan Whigs by now...).
Please, tell more? I was always fascinated by the reciprocal relationships of music and society.
(So sorry, I didn't realize I was in the music thread when I asked about JZ's job! Didn't mean to go off track. Sorry! But still, YAY!)
He's a dorktastic drama geek turned rockstar, and I love him for it.
I KNOW, RIGHT??? Love.
the bits I saw of the local indie-pop scene were just as bad in terms of regrettable sexism as the grunge scene.
The MSP indie-pop scene wasn't much better (AK is just totally lacking in same). At least with grunge, I didn't have to deal with my body image issues, whereas the indie girls all seemed waif-like and ethereal.
YAY JZ!!!
I am sooper excited about seeing Rilo Kiley tonight.
Anyone else heard of 'em?
Aw, that makes me miss Tina. I like 'em ok, but she loved the hell out of them. And Jenny Lewis is crazy-hot.
I think "The Moneymaker" is my favorite song on my "No Lawyers or Guns" mix, although "Coin-Operated Boy" comes pretty close.
Megan, why arentcha going tonight? Or are you?
Um... 'cause I'm really lame about finding out about concerts ahead of time.
Also, I'm in severe budget mode.
But mostly the first thing. If juliana hasn't texted me about it, I probably don't know about it.
