Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
Theremug - tea based theremin!
There's a "teabagging" joke to be made there, but I'm not doing it.
But can it play Little Drummer Boy?
Yes, but you have to use orange pekoe.
I don't know why I'm so cheesed that I just helped my Mom use Amazon Marketplace to buy a rare Ted Nugent CD for my brother. Fingers crossed that it arrives when promised and in the excellent condition it professes to be.
Glad to hear that the Tom Waits book is almost out because I ordered one last night. I thought I'd have to wait a couple months. Excellent news.
Been listening to Todd Snider a lot lately & just sent a couple things to Buffistarawk2. The first is a long monologue introducing his song "Ballad of the Devil's Backbone Tavern." It's called "The Story of Ballad of the Devil's Backbone Tavern." Someone was kind enough to transcribe it, so I don't have to type out the inspirational words from Miss Virgy. Todd & his friends go into the eponymous, rough-looking tavern:
I’m not a good fighter or very good at protectin’ myself at all, y’know, so I thought, “Well, this could … this may not work out”, and … uh … so I saw behind the bar, there was this one older woman, she looked like she was in her eighties and she … huh … kinda hunched over, like I remember my grandma starts to do, she kinda… she had curly white hair and she … I thought, “Well, I could take her”, so I went over … over there … I’d go up to her, I said, “Man, we’re tryin’ to find Luckenbach and we’re so lost”,, and I swear this is true, she turned around really slow, I’ll never forget it, she turned around, she looked up at me and she kinda smiled, she says, “Fuck Luckenbach, drink with us!” … so we did!
The song isn't as good so I didn't send it, but I sent two others: the breathless "Incarcerated" in which our narrator explains to the judge that "every word I stated, while it may be complicated, it's still true in a way," and the seasonally appropriate "Happy New Year." Dig the lesson he learns from watching tv in the latter.
Now I have to go pack so's I can leave town. Merry-whatever-you-happen-to-be-celebrating-this-month and Happy New Year, everybody!
"All I Want To Do Is Shag For Christmas" by The BellRays = Best. Christmas. Song. Ever.
I just had quite the musical (early) evening. We went to see I'm Not There (which was GREAT), and then went out to dinner where our waitress was Thalia Zedek.
"All I Want To Do Is Shag For Christmas"
Is there anyplce I can sample this on line? 'cause I was gonna say, "no. Fairytale of New York." But then I realized I've never heard the BellRays
They played it on WFMU this afternoon. If you go here, it's the 3rd or 4th song in. It starts at 9:40.
If you go on iTunes, the tracks are mixed up. If you click on "All I Want to Do", you'll hear, "Santa's Got a Big Old Bag", and if you click on "Santa's Got a Big Old Bag", you'll hear "All I Want To Do Is Shag For Christmas".
