Fred: So you don't worry that it's possible for someone to send out a biological or electronic trigger that effectively overrides your own sense of ideals and values and replaces them with an alternative coercive agenda that reduces you to a mindless meat puppet? Shopkeeper: Wow. People used to think that I was paranoid.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Jon, the Hoodoo Gurus do a great version called "Little Drummer Boy (Up the Khyber)" that I can send to you.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Hec, you should talk Jilli into going down to SF for the Siouxsie show. Hell, you should go yourself - I think you'll really dig the spy jazz number she does on her album.

Jilli! Come down to San Francisco and see the Siouxsie with me! And JZ and Juliana and other people.

That might be my favorite thing on Beat the Retreat. Though I also really like the version of A Heart Needs a Home. Also liked Bob Mould and Los Lobos.

I may be the only one, but I like REM's cover of "Wall of Death".

I kind of have mixed feelings about that one, Cor. But then I've never really loved their covers because they wind up sounding too R.E.M. to me. Probably Stipe's voice.

Though I did like seeing him sing "Moon River" in concert.

I like that it sounds more like REM than R & L T. It's not a great cover, but it's a simple, tossed-off pleasure. I've yet to meet anyone other R & L T fan who agrees with me on that front, though.
