"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Plus, Powell's is having a "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" 33 1/3 Sale: [link]

I'm going to be one of the guest bloggers in that Powells series in the next couple weeks.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

According to David Barker's facebook, Haruki Murakami is translating the 33 1/3 Pet Sounds book into Japanese. That's just fucking awesome on so many levels.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

In the future, they'll say of you, "He's Big in Japan."

I'll bet David's book is more his speed because there's an affinity between Tom Waits' subject matter and Murakami's novels, but I'll also bet that Murakami listens to the Beach Boys way more often than Tom Waits.

Art Crawl!!!

Well, it would be an opportunity for him to listen to Tom Waits.

I'm guessing from the Murakami books I've read that he listens to a) a shitload of jazz, b) a chunk of Western classical music, and c) a wee bit of classic 60s rock.

Until Murakami translates my book, I'll have to settle for one of my other dreams coming true. A band naming themselves after The Daisy Bang.

By capturing the history of an obscure pop band that personified everything good about that genre of rock is Smay’s tribute to a sound and history that he loved. That is the same reason Murn, Kayne, Joyce and Hansen have chosen to adopt the name Daisy Bangs, to pay tribute to the music that has made them who they are.

Awesome!

I should go see them sometime. Maybe I'll tell them, "I know David Smay! Do you want to touch me?"

I hear that's an excellent pickup line.
