I'm surprised that their hasn't been more of a binaural renaissance in this age of headphones.
Okay, thanks to joe boucher's post, I'm dying to know if this Gomez Album (Liquid Skin) is in stereo or binaural. It plays
really
well in headphones, and there are several points where they play with the channels in such a way as to make me think it's binaural.
For example, on the song
Bring It On,
the opening lyrics are sung by all three singers. The first is very distinctly in the right channel. The second singer, as he joins in after a couple of words, sounds like he's standing right behind you. And the third singer joins in from the left channel. The rest of the song plays with the channels too -- at one point a bit of sound takes a little drive around your head. And the very end of the song feathers the singer's (the center one) last line back and forth between the left and right channels.
Also, at the start of the song Las Vegas Dealer, there's a humming sound effect that rolls side to side in a pretty smooth even pattern (you can track the invisible objoect as it moves back and forth, it's not just
left
or right).
Okay, I listened to some of the binaural samples at the FAQ page joe posted, and it sounds
very
different. The ambient qualities of the sound is very distinct and amazing.
Anyone else heard the new Mekons album yet?
Nope. How is it?
I haven't been able to get emusic to download for about a week now, and I'm about to lose my August downloads.
What problem are you having? Have you tried with a different computer?
eMusic has been fine for me.
I couldn't the site to load at all for days, then it would load, and I could navigate fine, but every time I tried to download a song, it would crap out.
The only other computer I have access to is at work, and downloading is strictly verboten.
eMusic's been fine for me, too, on Firefox, Safari, and IE. Have you cleared your cache?
The new Mekons record is pretty great, but it's sad and folksy like Journey To The End of Night, rather than angry like OOOH! and Punk Rock.
Yeah, I tried clearing my cache. That's when I could get on the site, but couldn't' download. I'm going to try again tonight.
I had a situation a couple of months back where my emusic downloader wouldn't download one particular track on my Mac at home. I sent them an email pointing out the problem and they said they were having no problem with the track. I still couldn't download it; it would start, but stall at 1:00 in and then give me an error message. So I tried it at work the next day on a PC and it downloaded fine.
