Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

There are a lot of musicians who work for eMusic as well, including Craig Finn (at least as of the summer).

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

msbelle, when I've tried to download more than my limit for the month, it stops me and tells me I need to pay more before I can finish downloading. So if you didn't get a message like that, I'm guessing it just didn't register that you were taking extra tracks, and I doubt they'll charge you for it.

katefate! I've seen Cheryl Wheeler live a bunch of times, and she is incredible. One of the funniest performers I've ever seen, and then she'll start singing these soulful, poignant songs that have you in tears. I don't listen to her CDs all that often anymore, but I would still see her live any chance I got.

I would love to do the mix thing, but my free time is so unpredictable. I think I'll just play along at home as a challenge to myself. I'm afraid my selections will be too acoustic; and worse, too pedestrian for Buffista taste.

What's wrong with acoustic music?? Speaking just for myself, I'd love to hear your contributions to the mix. I hear you on the free time thing, but if you do get the chance, I hope you'll reconsider.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

See me waving, katefate? Like a frantic metronome on goofballs, I am!

(And I'm still looking for other versions of "Iko Iko" -- I have Bell Starrs, Dr. John, and Cyndi Lauper so far.)

Looking forward to being put on the mix sched. I'll start figuring out what cuts to use....

Ann, that's a ferret.

Theodosia, I don't have a copy anymore (unless an old compilation LP is gathering dust in a box somewhere...), but the Dixie Cups also recorded "Iko Iko" during the '60s.

I may have that version at home. Forgot to check last night.

And, for your watching pleasure, here's a clip of The Osmonds burning down the house.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

katefate, I'm so jealous. I've seen Cheryl Wheeler live twice (at the Great American Music Hall in SF both times, once solo and once with Gorka, Wheeler and Cliff Eberhart), and yesyesyes to you and Kate -- the amazing fingerpicking, the wet-yourself funny, the lightning-fast downshift into something utterly heartbreaking.

I've been pimping on and off (but vigorously when on) for David to come with me if she ever makes it back to San Francisco again. He's maybe partly sort of half-assedly semi-convinced; now she just has to show up again.

The Osmonds burning down the house

Awesome! I was expecting a Talking Heads cover, but this was even better. Excellent dance moves!

Really? Doing what do you know? I am intrigued.

What I worry about is being charged later.

FWIW, msbelle, when I have had billing disputes with them in the past they agreed to a quick and easy fix in my favor both times.

Five guys that white should not rock out that much. They might sprain something.

I like the comment that points out that they have an invisible drummer. It's true!
