super hot coffee and a parliament ultra light:
I'm going to go on record as being one of the hype-swallowing millions who really really loves this Arctic Monkeys album -
Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.
It's just good. It's surprisingly good. Simple. Really great lyrics. Not life changing, but clever and not anywhere as predictable as I'd thought it would be. Very (but not too) Clash-esque.
Also very good - the new Belle and Sebastian. I think it will end up being my favorite since
If You're Feeling Sinister.
I would say it's upbeat for B & S, but I've never thought of them as a particularly depressing band.
Hah, Tina, just tonight on the way home I was thinking that the new B&S is my favorite since Boy With The Arab Strap.
And the Arctic Monkeys are not the Second Coming, but a good fun band, so far.
The new CD I'm really looking forward to digging my teeth into is the Destroyer, which has friends whose tastes I trust rolling around on the ground making insensate noises of pleasure.

It's good stuff - a lot better than
Dear Catastrophe Waitress
, IMO.

No kidding. Just the way Darnielle was talking about it on his blog several weeks ago has had me tapping my foot in anticipation for a while. (I just really started listening to
Streethawk
and I looooove it.)
But I am waiting until my Emusic refreshes on March 2 because I have spent waaay too much money on music this month.
Fire away.
I'll save the few ideas I have until tomorrow - it will be an excellent way to spend a loooong Friday afternoon at work.
Do you still need another person for the round robin? I'm up for it.
I'm in for the round robin too!
Heck, yeah! Fire away.
Should we all suggest one category? Or as many as we want and decide which we're going to use? How many should we have?
Or as many as we want
This! Cause I already have five or six and I've got a long-ass day in front of me with nothing fun to do.
I suggest we have Corwood decide the categories out of our suggestions (because that is just way way easier than trying to come to a bullshit consensus). Since we are putting this up at a gmail account and not burning CDs, there is no time restraint other than how long do you really want to spend sending music files to a gmail account... Corwood's RR had 26. I think our last one was 25. I think around there somewhere is reasonable.
Round robin list: Lisah, Tina, Misha, Jon, David, Erinaceous, Kate, DX, and me. Three rounds! Anyone else?
Also, I say suggest as many as you want. 'Cause I'm bossy, I like the idea of me being the ultimate arbiter of the categories, but I also like people having the voice to veto categories they dislike.

On the one we're doing elsewhere, we tried to limit it to 80 minutes just to have another constraint on there. However, the rule is that all categories must be met, so some songs have to do double or triple duty. I like this rule, as frustrating as it is, simply because I think constraints give people cause to be more creative. Also, I think 25-27 categories should cover all our needs. What do you think?
