Kaylee: Is that him? Mal: That's the buffet table. Kaylee: Well how can we be sure, unless we question it?

Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

I have for the round robin: Lisah, Tina, Misha, Jon, David, and me. That's just two rounds! Who else is in?

Mini-mix (10 songs) of Lifter Puller is up at buffistarawk. I'm not so good at the lyric analisys so I just included some of my favorite lines.

Lifter Puller vs. The End of the Evening

now you're tanner you're thinner you drink right through dinner / there's needles and pinners as prizes for the winners / love is like a battle of the bands, crank up your amps man

i've been tryin to meet you, dyin to reach you / it's too late for liquor but we could get some 3-2

Let's Get Incredible

dude looks like jesus but sleeveless, says he's into Rush and reckless chemistry / met him in memphis, got him up to galilee, says it's easy to see / these kids want something new to get their eyes rollin back into their dreams / they want a cellophane celebration, a revolution rushing into dancefloor distribution

Manpark

I really couldn't find a stretch of lyrics that weren't just kind of too disturbing to read. Great song, though.

Lake Street is for Lovers

smokin' weed and makin' money

Touch My Stuff

we used to fight with our fists, we used to fight over chicks / and we kissed at the flicks and people got pissed / and they spit from the balcony / these english majors wanna be some super genius novelists / they end up music journalists, chicks ain't that into it

The Flex and the Buff Result

finally the guy with the eyepatch arrives, he was drippin wet with gin fizz / he was half dead and dynamite / with the needle-marked arms like the frontman in some grunge band / a big straw hat and a liquid orange suntan / he cooled himself off with a japanese handfan / motioned for silence and then he began

Sublet

guess it all started in your apartment / you were in europe, she was your sublet

Mission Viejo

This song was my "Litte Hoodrat Friend" for Lifter Puller - the crazy hookalicious song that drew me in. It's about having to clean up in time to function for school:

summer was such bang-up fun, didn't mean to hurt no one / just tried to enlighten you / when classes start i'll quit, i've got until september 6th / when classes start i'll quit this, this is just some summer slippage

Mono

These are the complete lyrics to the song:

we were talkin on the hall phone / you said your boyfriend finally scored / now I've got something they call mononeucleosis / but Ill stay up if you wanna talk some more

Nassau Coliseum

My favorite LP song.

and i've got a feeling like i'm in the beatles / bigger than jesus, i'm getting shot at / it's getting hectic, there's so much traffic / i might never get it, it's behind the buildings / it's guarded by cameras, studied by doctors / wrapped up in plastic, it sleeps at the airport / skips all its classes, skips like a record / used to be better, do you remember?

I've been ripping a lot of mid-90s alt-country for a coworker, so expect to hear mandolins.

This is excellent.

Lifter Puller is all sent and done. Enjoy.

Looking forward to the RR. Do we get to go through and suggest categories again?('Cause that was fun).

super hot coffee and a parliament ultra light:

I'm going to go on record as being one of the hype-swallowing millions who really really loves this Arctic Monkeys album - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. It's just good. It's surprisingly good. Simple. Really great lyrics. Not life changing, but clever and not anywhere as predictable as I'd thought it would be. Very (but not too) Clash-esque.

Also very good - the new Belle and Sebastian. I think it will end up being my favorite since If You're Feeling Sinister. I would say it's upbeat for B & S, but I've never thought of them as a particularly depressing band.

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

Hah, Tina, just tonight on the way home I was thinking that the new B&S is my favorite since Boy With The Arab Strap.

And the Arctic Monkeys are not the Second Coming, but a good fun band, so far.

The new CD I'm really looking forward to digging my teeth into is the Destroyer, which has friends whose tastes I trust rolling around on the ground making insensate noises of pleasure.

It's good stuff - a lot better than Dear Catastrophe Waitress , IMO.

No kidding. Just the way Darnielle was talking about it on his blog several weeks ago has had me tapping my foot in anticipation for a while. (I just really started listening to Streethawk and I looooove it.)

But I am waiting until my Emusic refreshes on March 2 because I have spent waaay too much money on music this month.

Fire away.

I'll save the few ideas I have until tomorrow - it will be an excellent way to spend a loooong Friday afternoon at work.
