They should film that story and show it every Christmas.

hip deep in pie

What's funny to me about Alex Ross' post is that I read Angus' thing to a friend of mine who's mom is an opera singer (and knows far more about opera than me), and he made some kind of LePage joke too.

eta: (Or was the Lepage joke about the Opening ceremonies...?)

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

Angus is back at it! Great news!

corwood, what are some of the last things you downloaded. I think I can find you that way and add you too.

Yesterday, I downloaded

  • Sunn o)))) - Flight of the Behemoth
  • Chris Brokaw - Red Cities
  • Elf Power - A Dream In Sound (I had a copy of this already, but the sound quality was a bit shitty)
  • Vic Chesnutt - The Salesman and Bernadette &
  • Lyrics Born - Later That Day (ditto the re-download deal with the Elf Power album)

Hey, I need to hear about your last downloads so I can add you, too!

Art Crawl!!!

It's the Cowsills less than great year:

William Cowsills died on Friday -- it sounds like he was very sickly.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Happy Birthday, Jon B.!

emusic really should make it easier to search for users.

This is what I am saying.

Also:

Happiest of B-days to you, Jon!

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Thank Yew!

Over at Bradley's Almanac, a Boston-based music blog, you can download the entire Undertow Orchestra set I saw the other night: [link]

A fellow makes himself conspicuous when he throws soft-boiled eggs at the electric fan.

Happy happy to Jon!

Trying to keep it musical, I described The Pernice Bros. to my DH as being "a smarter Wilco". (He then said "Dammit! I'm not smart enough for Wilco!") How would you-all describe them?

tina f. - Feb 20, 2006 4:36:25 pm PST #2258 of 10003

If we're being totally honest - I would describe them as brainier but less melodramatic than the Smiths and less catchy than Wilco. And more forgettable than both. I don't mean to diss. I loooove Joe Pernice, but I almost never find myself going back to listen to whole Pernice Bros. albums though there are some singles that stick out ("7:30" and "Let That Show" especially).

That's probably rougher than I mean to be - I had a shitty day.

To make myself feel better I am making mixes for a friend who busy being a big time lawyer and hasn't made time to listen to new music for three years. So far I have expanded my Best of 2005 mix to THREE discs. It's kind of ridiculous.

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

(He then said "Dammit! I'm not smart enough for Wilco!") How would you-all describe them?

"So smart that even people who aren't smart enough for Wilco will get them"? I'm not familiar enough with them to know if that's true, but it seems the obvious argument to make given his objection.

Happy birthday to Jon, ASH, Robert Altman, and Billy Zoom (that one's for Hec) among many others.

I had a relapse and had to avoid typing for the last couple weeks, but I'm better now. Not fully healed (and leery of excessive typing and/or writing since the recovery was first set back by the former and then by the latter) but mostly okay and planning on returning to work next week. Should take a good day or two before I start slacking off and posting here again...
