Since I'm hogging this thread today, I'll continue monologuing. Did I mention that I'm playing SXSW this year for the first time? I'm going to play bass in a friend-of-a-friend's (or is that friend's-of-a-friend?) band. The songs are ok in a Matthew Sweet sorta way, but I'm not that into them. Still, I'll have a band wristband for the first year ever!

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

Is that like an All Access thing? Cause if it is, OMG that's even cooler!

That's why I'm out in the parking lot, smoking in my Trans Am.

Oh no, it's just like the regular music festival wristband, but a different color. A color that says: "Wanna copy of my demo?"
My mother warned me about guys like that. Some of 'em burn out. Some become music critics.
Some do both!
Devin Davis is playing at the Hideout in Chicago every Wednesday in February (Tina, I'm looking at you!):
This email is just a friendly reminder/announcement of my upcoming shows in February at Chicago's beloved Hideout. Tim and Katie have asked me and my group to perform there every Wednesday night in February.
Our residency begins THIS WEDNESDAY February 1st. I will be joined by the full band for this show and Pearly Sweets (aka: Abraham of Baby Teeth) will open the show. The festivities begin at 8:30 pm and will cost $7. We will be debuting a new song, as well as another recent new tune that we played back in November. This will be our first show in Chicago since November, so we would, of course, love to see you there. The lineups for the shows are as follows:
Wed February 1st = full band (electric) w/ Pearly Sweets (Baby Teeth)
Wed February 8th = full band with a tentative "country theme" (acoustic guitars and piano in addition to drums and bass) w/ The Modern Temper
Wed February 15th = full band (electric) w/ Adam Fitz
Wed February 22nd = solo acoustic w/ Mikael Jorgensen (WILCO!!) & John Klos (ex Boas, Mansion). For this show I am toying around with the idea of doing a "camping themed night" complete with rear-projected Aurora Borealis footage, fake campfire, and free smores and hot dogs. Not quite sure about this yet.. but it seems like an interesting idea... We'll see what happens.
Did we know that Martha(and the Vandellas) Reeves is on the city council in Detroit? It was on Salon's (groan) Broadsheet yesterday...I really hate the thought that there was a meeting where somebody said "It's a *magazine* with news about *women*. Get it?" But I thought that was a very cool bit of "Where Are They Now?'

Here's the introductory post where they talk a teeny bit about the name: [link]
Tina, I'm looking at you!
And I am, as the kids say, stoked. I must rally the troops - the Feb. 22 show looks good, but may be crowded with procrastinators. I am thinking the 8th (country theme!!) or possibly the 15th (any Chicagoistas interested in going? Profile add. is good.)
I know, Jon. I read that. Still not convinced. But maybe I'm just bitter.
