Assuming that V and Tim were working on those CDs for a good long time, Tim would only have to wait for Veronica to go out for a drink or a bathroom break to quickly substitute the smoking guncomputer disc. In fact, he could have prestidigitated it anywhere into the apartment and claimed to have 'found' it between the sofa cushions or whatever.
FWIW, I thought the apartment looked a lot too neat and interesting to be the crib of a skanky drug addict. (Not that I haven't known addicts with taste and OCD, but that's not the way to bet.)

Except he didn't. He only went over to the shelves by the TV when Veronica suggested he look for A Bug's Life. It was then that Tim picked up Taps, with the CD already inside. There was no prestidigitation. That it was already in Taps would suggest the person who put it there had a sense of humor, which Tim clearly did not.
So Skanky!Ex really did have the cd of the telephone conversations? Huh.
I still think Lucky Tim did the phone taps, and that it's not that hard to break into a dead man's house to plant a DVD. There's no reason for Grieco to bug
Veronica's
phone. She also was separated from her own phone while in jail.
Tim definitely tapped Veronica's phone and I'm pretty sure-to-certain he tapped Landry's, too, because that's how he would have gotten confirmation that Landry thought he was just a big tool.
Planting the disc just happened off screen, either during the time he and V were both there, or as bon bon notes, sometime earlier.

But to be fair to the viewer, you have to show the scene at some point. All it would've taken was a quick scene where Landry had Tim confiscate the class's cells before a test, or somesuch. I have no problem with him having access to Landry's phone, because he was Landry's gofer.

But if you're going to go to all that trouble anyway, why not upload the stuff to Grieco's computer so it's easier to find?
It's like Tim was being framed... by the writers.
I think too much happens off-screen on this show, anyhow -- be it mystery elements or serial drama elements. That's ny number 1 beef with the series. It might be my only beef. I understand being presses for time and that the writers don't want to tip their hands, but I often feel a little dissatisfied with the resolutions, because of it.
If the acting weren't so strong, I rthink I would have given up the show. This cast manages to make me care about the characters, though. Darn them.

Or a quick scene where Tim's says his phone is dead and he asked to use Veronica's cellphone, and then Veronica was distracted for a few seconds. I think they could have easily put something like that in one of the convenience store scenes. It didn't have to be super obvious if there were other things to distract the audience.

Right. Well, it would only have to happen prior to Keith and Veronica having the actual phone call.
Do we have 19 or twenty episodes this season?
