Just caught up with the show last night, and I have to say I'm with tiggy.

First, Logan broke up with Veronica. Why on earth would she believe he wasn't going to hook up while they were apart? The fact that he was with Madison, yeah, kind of icky, but Logan in Aspen, drinking, with a convenient, familiar girl offering her favors? In what scenario is Logan going to pass that up because it might wound Veronica -- whom *he* broke up with in the first place? I completely agree that if I were Veronica, interacting with Dick would be far more uncomfortable and distasteful than knowing Logan having a one-off with Madison.

The RU-486 thing is really disturbing. Do your homework, people. And I get where you want to make the culprit the least suspicious sometimes, but I really didn't buy Phyllis drugging Bonnie. If they're so close, wouldn't she offer to help Bonnie in any way she could, encourage her to follow her dreams despite the baby? Plus, with grandma and grandpa apparently so thrilled about the kid, she had to have known Bonnie would have all sorts of help with it. It's just a little farfetched that a good friend would take a decision like that into her own hands, *in her friend's best interest*.

Emo Logan I can forgive. He's lost his mother and his home, and his father turned out not only to have been screwing his girlfriend but a psycho killer as well (who used to beat him). Logan can't possibly have many reserves of strength left. He may be young and rich, but he's completely alone in the world aside from Veronica and (ugh) Dick, whom he clearly only tolerates at this point.

At the same time, I'm tired of Logan having absolutely no point on this show aside from (apparently, in her eyes) torturing Veronica, who needs to grow up. In the beginning, he wanted to find out who killed Lilly, too, and then there was the question of what would ultimately happen to his father. Now, he has nothing to do. And while I do think he has every right to be *feeling* emo now, the old Logan would have been in full snark mode to cover it up (if not at Veronica, at everyone else). But the writers have for some reason softened him to the point of runny pudding, which is not only boring but out of character.

I think one of the reasons BtVS and Angel (and now SPN) work so well for me was the constant struggle, the goal that's never quite achieved -- here, the tension of the first season lapsed into the melodrama of the second season, and the fact that Veronica now has no overarching *mission* leaves a big hole. For me, at least. It wouldn't matter quite so much if the show hadn't started out that way, I think -- there are plenty of entertaining detective shows that don't include that kind of constant conflict. But imagine if Buffy had been relieved of her slayer duties in S3. This show feels like that to me now -- without a purpose, or at least without the compelling purpose it started off with.

Back to the Dean O'Dell mystery, my thoughts are this:

Mindy: I just can't see her hiring Keith if she actually murdered her husband. There may be something hinky going on with her (beyond the affair with Landry) but I think she's ultimately innocent of Cyrus' death.

Not!Lucky (I can never remember if his name is Tim or Ted for some reason.): We don't have a real motive, but he could have done it. Yes, the files on his computer could be season 1 Veronica, or they could be him tracking the evidence trail to make sure he didn't leave any leads back to him. He also had access to Veronica's perfect murder paper (if it wasn't posted, in which case everyone has access.)

Landry: Maybe. He's got motive, sort of. But I don't see him really thinking of Cyrus as someone who needed to be bumped off. However, he could have taken Mindy's car back to the college to off O'Dell and that's how it ended up being egged.

Right now, my prime candidate is the teenage son. He had motive, he's stolen O'Dell's car in the past (which would explain how the car got egged), I can definitely see O'Dell's reaction to showing up at his office at 2am to be "What are you doing here?" whereas Mindy or Landry would probably get a more visceral reaction, considering his mental space at the time, and he certainly doesn't seem to be shook up by the whole ordeal. I can also see a teenager downloading instructions on how to commit a perfect murder from the internet (if Veronica's paper was indeed posted) and following them to the letter.
