Meet John Smith was the episode that made officially made me a fan, though I really liked the first two episodes. The comedy, drama, and mystery was all brilliantly blended. Although the ending of YTYKS would've hooked me if I wasn't a fan yet. You know, I find it's usually the third episode of a show that hooks me. Maybe that's just how long it takes for me to decide how much I really like it.
Veronica Mars: Annoy, Tiny Blonde One. Annoy Like the Wind.

This is why I try to give each new show at least three viewings before I give up. Of course, my hatred of Calista Flockhart meant that Brothers and Sisters didn't even get that far. Jericho barely made it.
I don't know if shows actually hook me by the third episode, but that is the break episode for me, if they haven't given me reason to watch above and beyond the premise that caught my eye in the first place.
I want to say I was hooked on VM at the pilot, but I think that's just because I watched so many episodes over a short period of time. I thought the pilot really strong, though. I liked Troy right away, and he appeared in CWCD, the second episode. I think Wrath of Con is what hooked me, but I definitely thought the series was stronger as a whole, from LaV on (which was #8).

But you're one of those weirdos who likes "Drinking the Kool-Aid."
Man, that episode disillusioned me so hard after eight episodes of awesomeness.

I love that episode, but i blame that entirely on my Casey infatuation. i'm still wishing we'd see more of him.
I also saw it first. And I think I liked Percy. No, wait. That was the ass Willow reformed. Casey.
LaV had Meg. You must have liked LaV.
Heh. Casey Xpost.
They ought to have him at Hearst.

Of course I did! I never said I didn't.
You sort of dissed that as my starting point for being totally hooked.
Oh, no, I was dissing your notion that the rest of the series is much better after that point, when the very next episode, to me, is the low point of the season.
They ought to have him at Hearst
there isn't enough yes in the world.
